When I first discovered HP fanfics, it was like being dropped into a vat of chocolate. The sheer quantity of HP fan fiction available is just staggering, and although much of what is published online is not of great quality (this is true for any genre), even the 5% that is outstanding is a large number of stories, in absolute terms. I like Snape/Harry stories the best of all, and was thrilled to see what a banquet was laid before me.

10:09a - Jailbait and Redemption: Snape/Harry vs. Snape/Draco in Fanfiction

Redemption---even grace---can come in interesting and unexpected packages. I realized this recently when (forced to idleness by a health problem) I spent some time branching out in hp fanon, reading pairings that I hadn’t given much time to, before. I’m still a hopeless Snape-addict, of course. But I tried reading new Snape pairings along with other hp combinations, even sampling *takes a deep breath* het fanfiction. And as I worked my way through a raft of Snape/Draco stories, I was struck by the ways that relationships----even those that would be the most problematic in RL----often function as vehicles for redemption in hp fanon. But they do so quite differently, depending on the pairing.
